9 Powerful Books + When to Read Them

October 17, 2013 by

The thing I’ve learned about books is that in the midst of reading, we often put them down so we can pick them up again at the exact right moment. I’m always reading a few books at a time and recently paused with Marianne Williamson’s Enchanted Love. I intuitively threw it in my travel bag yesterday and began reading it again on the plane last night. It was perfect, divine timing. She had the message I needed to hear.

Is this true for you too? Do you magically pick up a book you had put down and find the exact inspiration you need in that moment?

Here are some of my favorite reads and when I recommend reading them:

When you want to understand your body and mind, read You Can Heal Your Life by Louise L. Hay.

When you want to create something out of nothing, read Ask and It Is GivenLearning to Manifest Your Desires by Ester and Jerry Hicks.

When your heart is broken, read A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles” by Marianne Williamson.

When you are wanting love, read A Woman’s Worth by Marianne Williamson.

When you feel creatively stuck, read The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron.

When you want to expand what you believe, read Many Lives, Many Masters: The True Story of a Prominent Psychiatrist, His Young Patient, and the Past-Life Therapy That Changed Both Their Lives by Brian L. Weiss.

When you need a friend, read Spirit Junkie: A Radical Road to Self-Love and Miracles by Gabrielle Bernstein.

When you are falling in love, read Enchanted Love: The Mystical Power of Intimate Relationships by Marianne Williamson.

When you want to create boundaries, read The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz.

The Artist’s Way: Group Coaching

“As you move toward a dream, the dream moves toward you.”

―Julia Cameron

In December, I kicked off a group coaching class with three powerful women. They are seekers, dreamers and believers. As a guide for the class, we used Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way. I was first introduced to the book by Kimberly Wilson, whose Creativity Circle I took in October 2012. While doing the work myself, I was moved to share it in a course of my own, and I am so grateful. Cameron’s book is truly a gift.
